CLOTHING

CLOTHES are made of "CLOTH".
CLOTHING is what I'm wearing.All our clothes are items of CLOTHING.

to put on clothes   =   TO DRESS   [ to get dressed ]    = (the act)
to wear clothes   =   TO HAVE CLOTHES ON   [ to be dressed ]    ≠ (to be naked)


DRESS CODE  =  CASUAL vs. FORMAL

In formal cases, we wear a SUIT = 2 or 3 items
=  "a three-piece suit" (marriages)

Tipos de camisetas

     SHIRT TYPES

- a shirt is the one with long sleeves...
- sleeves are the parts of a shirt that covers your arms

A. a tank top has no sleeves and also the shoulders are exposed
B. a T-shirt  looks like a T, not an M (look at the K-N model).
C. a sleeveless shirt is sleeveLESS, so... NO SLEEVES... =)
D. a tube top: it covers the top part (genearally not the belly) and it has no straps to hold it.
E. a sports bra: typically used in gyms
F. a jersey: team shirts (jersey is the material).
G. a V-neck shirt: the name says it all...
H. a polo shirt: the name is worldwide known... [ it's based on the collar of  the shirt ]


I. a Hawaiian shirt : the name says it all ( it's based on the PATTERN, printed image )
J. a blouse istipically feminine
K. a turtleneck has a high collar covering the neck
L. a flannel shirt is for cold days (flannel is a thick fabric), if not for cold, it's a plaid (not flannel)
M. a DRESS SHIRT is the one for SOCIAL OCCASIONS
N. a sweatshirt: makes you swet, like in a sauna
O. a tunic : it's loose (≠ tight), tipically sleeveless, worn typically by women, over a skirt or trousers.

  Parts of a shirt

  • The cuffs are the part around your wrist. On really fancy dress shirts, men use cufflinks to hold the cuffs together.
  • There are usually tags inside of a shirt. They display the size, materials, and cleaning instructions.
  • Women's shirts sometime have straps that go over their shoulders to hold the shirt up.
  • Some shirts, like a lot of t-shirts, have prints on them. These can be logos, drawings, pictures, or text.
